Chartering a MOPS group

MOPS is chartered to protect the integrity and fundamentals of this Christ-centred organisation. Once chartered, you may be assured that all MOPS groups will have the same basic format and purpose.

Do groups have to charter through a church?

Yes. MOPS (NZ) Inc. requires groups to charter through local churches or parachurch organisations. MOPS is inter-denominational.

How much does it cost to charter and operate a MOPS group?

There is an annual chartering fee of $400. It is ideal to have the chartering church include the MOPS ministry in their budget. Many churches have funded MOPS through the Missions, Women's Ministry, or Christian Education budget.
Charter Application Form & Information

What happens once we lodge a Charter Application?

After your application is approved, you will recieve:

  • The MOPS Handbook containing detailed explanations of how to begin and develop a MOPS and MOPPETS programme.
  • Positional Handbooks for each leadership position.
  • The chartering package will include the leadership magazine 'Connections'. MUMSense magazine, theme resources and other material that will assist in establishing the programme in your church.
  • You will be contacted by your Regional Coordinator who will support you through the 'getting started' stage.

On a regular basis, you will receive:

  • Quarterly issues of the leadership magazine 'Connections', containing leadership training materials and articles of interest to MOPS leaders.
  • Training opportunities, such as conferences and regional training meetings.
  • Ongoing support and assistance which is offered to local groups by letter, phone, email, and MOPS websites.

What is the benefit of chartering?

Your church gains access to the leadership training, resources, and expertise of an international ministry. The ongoing training, support and encouragement offered assists leaders in maintaining their enthusiasm and vision for the ministry. The combined network of MOPS groups builds an effective outreach of ministry for the women in the community, and provides on-going support and new ideas to established groups.

Come to a training session

MOPS NZ runs regional training for leaders in April and October.  You are welcome to attend a session in your region to find out about MOPS and talk to leaders already running groups.  Details of times and venues will be posted below at the relevant times.

Steps to setting up a MOPS group

1. Download an Information Booklet or order an Enquiry Pack by email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

2. Read through the information. View the DVD and pray for God's guidance.

3. Visit a MOPS group, if possible, and see first-hand how it works. Contact the Coordinator first and let them know you are coming.

4. Assess the outreach potential in your community. Begin by asking some key questions:
- Is there a need for a programme like this in our community? In our church?
- Do I and my local ministry agree with MOPS NZ's Faith Position Statement?

5. Identify someone who'll carry the vision. Are there other mums, mentor age women, director of Women's Ministry in my church or community who could join the team and take leadership roles in a new MOPS group?

6. Assess the availability of committed Christian mothers of preschool-age children who could serve in leadership on a MOPS Committee.

7. Submit a MOPS Charter Agreement with your pastor's or church officer's signature, indicating agreement with the MOPS Statement of Faith, and the $450 charter fee to: MOPS (NZ) Inc., P O Box 12 307, Chartwell Square, Hamilton 3248

8. By signing the Charter Agreement, the governing board and local leaders of your faith-based ministry agree not only with the spiritual foundation of MOPS (NZ) Inc, but with the legal requirements of the Charter Agreement, which are designed to protect the integrity of the MOPS concept.
- The local church is responsible for the local MOPS group, which falls under it's authority on all policy decisions. A charter is valid for one year.
- The charer is renewed each February when the Charter Renewal is signed by the pastor or ministry leader and returned to MOPS (NZ) Inc with the Charter Renewal fee.

9. Upon acceptance as a chartered MOPS group, you will receive a variety of resources to serve and support you as you minister to as many mums and families as possible through local volunteer support.
